Q: What Will My Child’s First Visit Be Like?
Q: Will My Teen Have To Get Metal Braces?
Q: How Can We Prevent Cavities?
Q: Can You Help With Dental Anxiety?
Your smile is incredibly important. It’s not just a matter of having teeth healthy enough to eat. Your smile can brighten up a room and help you ...
When your child makes his first visit to our Tulsa, OK dental office, of course we will give a thorough exam and clean those baby teeth that have come in. Prevention is worth a pound of cure, after all. But it’s also very important to make sure your child enjoys his or her visits. Dentists can be a bit scary to younger patients, so we go out of our way to help your child relax and have fun at their first visit. This way, they will be more likely to look forward to future appointments. For the first visit, we let your child play with most of our dental tools so they see that the tools are not scary. We even finish the visit with either a balloon or a treat.
When your adult teeth come in, they can sometimes be uneven. That’s why so many teens get orthodontic treatments; their teeth have mostly finished coming in and moving, so that’s when you can get lasting results from orthodontics. But many teens are embarrassed about wearing metal braces and wires for years. Instead, Dr. Cornell can offer Invisalign. These clear plastic aligners will gently move teeth to where they belong like braces, but they are much more comfortable. Plus, they’re practically invisible when they are worn.
Cavities are caused by harmful bacteria that thrive on food particles left behind when you eat. They especially love sugar, which is why dentists recommend limiting both. There are several things you can do to fight these bacteria and the tooth decay they cause:
To help you keep your mouth clean, we can offer dental sealants. This treatment uses a special tooth-colored plastic that fills in the rough surfaces of your biting teeth. This takes away the nooks and grooves that tend to collect food particles, which means there’s less food for those bacteria for up to 10 years. Perhaps best of all, placing sealants on your teeth is both fast and pain-free.
Maybe someone in your family had a bad visit with another dentist. Or perhaps a procedure done at another dental office went bad and was really painful. Such things can cause an understandable amount of worry and anxiety about going to the dentist. That’s why we offer sedation dentistry. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral medication to help you relax, get past your worries, and get the dental care your teeth need.
